About this Location

The Halsey House is a historic colonial-era home now operated as a museum by the Southampton History Museum. It was built around 1683 by Thomas Halsey Jr., whose family were among the earliest English settlers in the area. Originally part of the Halsey family estate, the house is one of the oldest surviving English-style structures in New York State and has been restored to reflect domestic life in the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside, visitors can see period furnishings, including early household items and rare artifacts like a 16th-century Breeches Bible. Surrounding the house are heritage gardens and an orchard maintained to evoke colonial gardening practices. It also serves as a venue for public programs and community events.
